anemiaSickle cell disease (SSD) is a genetically inherited disease affecting the red blood cells, causing them to change from a normal round form to a twisted shape. This adversely impacts their ability to carry oxygen throughout the body, and makes the cells more susceptible to be destroyed easily which can cause severe anemia.
